I asked Finola to help put together the first proper marketing strategy at nearForm. Up to that point we had been "winging" it, and we needed some structure, very quickly. In particular, I wanted to be able to measure and track the effectiveness of our various activities: website, twitter engagement, blog posts, meetups, etc. Finola was able to put together a reports package that highlighted the key number for us, and which we then used to drive activity.
The other great thing about working with Finola was that she opened my eyes to the importance of internal marketing. To build a culture, you need to communicate internally, and this communication needs to be effective. Finola helped us create and deliver a monthly employee newsletter that is still running to this day.
To make all this work, you need process. The marketing team needs to have a system in place to deliver on a regular schedule. This is a key element of marketing implementation that often gets lost in the enthusiasm for new ideas and strategic initiatives. Without process, these great ideas often die on the vine, their promise betrayed by poor execution. One of the Finola's key contributions was the design, introduction, and sustained execution of a marketing content delivery process. She took us to the next level.
